This work was created through a collaboration between the Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau and Yuki Nara. The pedestal portion was specially designed by Nara for this collaboration and produced in a limited edition using Poltrona Frau’s craftsmanship and its signature high-quality leather, Pelle Frau®. The cowhide stretched over the thick, tree-like form intentionally retains traces of its former life as living skin, including looseness, wrinkles, and other natural marks.“Bone Flower_1/f” belongs to Nara’s representative “Bone Flower” series, while also being conceived around a distinct concept. The work draws inspiration from “1/f fluctuation,” the irregular yet comforting rhythms observed throughout nature, such as the flickering of flames or sunlight filtering through trees. By firing the piece at temperatures approximately 70 degrees higher than usual, Nara deliberately encouraged the clay to “move” under extreme heat. This movement of the clay—something that would ordinarily be controlled or suppressed—imbues the form with a sense of openness and organic vitality. When used practically as a flower vessel, the work naturally receives and harmonizes with the living forms of plants without resistance.
