This work was exhibited in the artist’s solo exhibition “ARS NOVA” held at Kunsthalle Zürich (Switzerland) in 2006. Reyle’s works are often focused on the theme of light and are incorporated in physical luminescence and reflections like lighting and mirror materials. In this work, shards of crushed transparent acrylic reflect the surrounding light, blending in with the bold color surface on the canvas. The title of his solo exhibition in 2006 is a Latin word that means new technique and new art. It is likely derived from the musical theory that developed in 14th-century France on the eve of the Renaissance, while art also underwent a period of major humanistic reforms from that time. Reyle resists the stereotypes of art and continues to seek new visual discoveries. “ARS NOVA” must have been a powerful statement that loudly proclaims this attitude.
