Keisuke Yamamoto has cultivated his own unique means of expression while shifting back and forth between painting and sculpture. The surface of this wooden sculpture has been painted in oils. At first glance, it appears to be an idyllic motif consisting of a stack of plump spherical forms with a bird feeding hut on top, all painted in candy-like colors. However, the “faces” engraved on the spheres are rather uncanny, making the work feel both cute yet somewhat unsettling. The fairies also reflect a sense of diversity. Using found objects and scrap wood as materials for his sculptures, Yamamoto continues to question the relationships between humans, living things and nature, and the society in which we live, creating a fascinating world of fantasy. The title is also rich in nuance.
