Yamamoto's paintings combine organic geometric forms and botanical forms in a unique rhythm, as if creating a symphony of colors. The smooth painted surfaces, uneven textures generated by thickly layering the paint, and the use of collage gives rise to a canvas rich in variety that asserts its own material existence. Its three-dimensional quality is likely a reflection of Yamamoto’s physical sensibility towards his materials, informed by his artistic origins as a sculptor. The materiality and depth of the work evoke the senses of each viewer. Its rich expression conceived through the connections, intersections, and crossings of images which the artist himself describes as “not a reproduction of something, but a means of approaching existence,” leaves a profound and lasting impression.
