Born in 1979 in Katowice, Poland, Kwade graduated from Berlin University of the Arts in 2005 and continues to be based in Berlin. In her primarily sculptural and installation-based practice, she draws on philosophy and science to point to new interpretations of time, space, and our perceptions of the world. Major solo exhibitions and projects include “Rooftop Garden Installation” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, 2019), exhibitions at the Langen Foundation (Neuss, Germany, 2020), Place Vendôme (Paris, 2022), and Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong, 2025), among many other international institutions. The artist has also participated in numerous international exhibitions, including “Viva Arte Viva” at the 57th Biennale di Venezia (2017), the Setouchi Triennale (2019), and Desert X AlUla (Saudi Arabia, 2022). Her works are held in the collections of major contemporary art institutions around the world, including the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (Washington, D.C.), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Humlebæk, Denmark), MUDAM - The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg (Luxembourg), and mumok (Vienna).
