RIKAKO KAWAUCHI
Born in Tokyo in 1990, Kawauchi graduated from the Graduate School of Art and Design of Tama Art University with a master’s degree in Oil Painting in 2017. With a strong interest in food as a starting point, her fascination with the body and life is strongly expressed in her works. Derivatively, she depicts the contrasting relationship and mutuality of the physical and spiritual, the self and others. She employs a variety of artistic techniques, including paintings that combine thick paint and shredded lines, drawings in which colors and lines seem to bleed onto paper, and three-dimensional line depictions using neon and wire. Her expression techniques are highly diversified and remarkably consistent. Kawauchi’s talent has been recognized in important public exhibitions that evaluate young artists. She was awarded the grand prize of the VOCA Exhibition (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2022), the Yuki Terase Award at the TERRADA ART AWARD 2021 Finalist Exhibition, the shiseido art egg Prize at the 9th shiseido art egg (2015) as the youngest winner, the Kenjiro Hosaka Prize at the 1st CAF Award Exhibition (2014), etc. In recent years, Kawauchi has been receiving the opportunities to exhibit her works abroad in Italy, Germany, Israel, Belgium, and other countries. Her works are acquired by numerous corporate collections and prominent private collections. For public museum, her works are in the collection of the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art.
