Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh produced several collaborative paintings. In this work, Mr. DOB, a character created by Murakami, is superimposed on a self-portrait by the seventeenth-century Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The artists created multiple color variations using the same composition. The museum's collection also includes “Bernini DOB: Carmine Pink and Black,” another color variation of the same composition, acquired before this work.
