A scene painted while reflecting memories of the artist’s childhood. The reclining figure in the work is dreamily holding an azalea flower in the mouth. The scale and perspective of the objects are rendered in disorienting inversions, causing the pictorial space to twist the longer one looks. Is the figure lying down or floating? The sound of countless papers and petals brushing against one another, the scent and color of the flowers, the taste of nectar, and their soft, weightless texture are vividly rendered through Kashiki’s meticulous brushwork. It is an intensely sensuous painting that awakens the viewer’s five senses.
