This work was showcased in Ikemura’s solo exhibition “infinitely transparent”. The word “light (hikari)” has been repeated three times in the short subtitle: “infinitely transparent / light that can be seen from the darkest place / light appears from the darkest place / light that shines in the endless dark place”. This work was presented in the center of the exhibition. As the title “Lightscape” suggests, it depicts light and landscape. According to Goethe’s color theory, darkness and light are two sides of the same coin that are essential to each other. Until now, Ikemura’s works have questioned the visible and the invisible. The coming and going of life, as well as light and darkness. This is an interaction between the destiny of the universe and Ikemura’s imagination. The darkness deepens towards the top of the work. As the intensity of gradation and vividness gradually diminished from extremely clear brightness of yellow to pink and amber, this work is left with a faint line of phosphorescence and faded away into the deep darkness. Alternatively, light descends from the depths of darkness.
