Kondo states that painting is a way of life. As if to celebrate living, Kondo has continued to depict a world filled with love through striking, intense colors and brush strokes in her recent works. In this piece, two children of different races and genders gently hold each other. Judging from the title, it might imply that one of them is physically or mentally wounded and the other is attempting to heal them, or perhaps the care is mutual. However, this cannot be determined from the painting alone. Perhaps the source of sadness or pain has already gone away; neither child’s gaze is downcast nor clouded with sadness, and their cheeks subtly hint at a smile. The arms with which they wrapped around each other are soft, and their hands possess a certain firmness. Their clear, forthright gaze pierces viewers’ hearts. If only we could live like this, embracing and cherishing each other.
