Morimoto’s rough brushwork captures the elusive nature of light with surprising precision through its very roughness. A lone girl stands in the city at night. Her direct and strong gaze as she quietly looks back is illuminated by the city lights. Despite the cold of the night, the warmth remains in her unadorned cheeks. As Morimoto has stated that he draws on magical realism, his approach of shifting realistic scenes toward symbolism and narrative evokes a solitary sensibility weavering between reality and reverie.
