A glass hourglass in which each chamber on either side of its narrow waist contains a small object. One side is a camera, while the other side is a stack of hexagonal forms resembling mineral crystals. Each time the hourglass is turned over, the objects are buried in whiteness and then revealed again. Arsham’s recurring theme is “Fictional Archaeology.” He has long created sculptures of the symbols of civilizations collapsed in the distant future. Here, however, he deliberately presents the irreversibility of things deteriorating over time and its passage in a reversible form.
