This work belongs to Ando’s signature series, "Kumo (Cloud)." To bring a cloud to mind is to picture little more than an amorphous mass floating vaguely in the sky, without a fixed form. Likewise, the color of metal is not perceived as any one single, specific hue. It emerges relatively as an intense reflection within visible spectrum. In this work, too, the brightness and darkness of the cloud continually reverse depending on the viewer’s position. The shifting cloud formed through the light reflected by the aluminum calls into question how things in the world are perceived.
