Compared to the calm, objective style of strokes and stripped grids that Frize has devoted much of his artistic career to, the wildness of his works from 2022 including this work, might seem a little abrupt. Although the vertically elongated strokes evoke reminiscences of Frize’s previous works, there is an irregular cluster of colors in the center that captures the gaze. In this rising cloud-like expression, there is a strong sense of movement and coincidence that is not often seen in Frize's earlier works. Like a hue circle, various colors from red to purple come together and seem to form a gentle whirlpool. As an artist in his 70s, Frize attempts to break away from the established and seeks to achieve a renewed evolution. His innovative spirit deserves this collection with contemporaneity as its thematic focus.
