“Sakura” is one of Suzuki's signature series. This is a very rare canvas print work among his works as a photographer. Although works in edition have been printed on standard printing paper with the same title, this work is the only unique piece on canvas. Suzuki is widely known as a photographer who is fascinated about “what is being perceived”, this work brilliantly demonstrates such characteristics. The flower raft covers the surface of the lake and thick tree trunks can be seen reaching up to the sky towering through the gap in the raft. The water surface fluctuates causing a faint illusion like a mirage, conveying the softness of spring and the fragrance of flowers in the air. Countless petals that fall from the branches and drift on the water surface overlap with the trunk, creating a beautiful composition that makes the cherry blossoms look like they are in full bloom in the photo. What was originally on the water surface would be reversed upside down, one will find that the image of this work is intentionally reversed upon closer observation. It is a fantastical work.
