PIERRE HUYGHE

Idiom
Born in Paris, France in 1962. Huyghe graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) in 1985. He has produced works in a wide range of genres since the beginning of his career, including video, photography, sculpture, and performance, dealing with the contrasts between fiction and reality, and human and non-human. By invoking structures that generate fictional spaces and images, from rituals and ceremonies to films and exhibitions, Huyghe’s works lead us to conceive of a perception of the world that does not depend on human consciousness, experience, or senses. He received the Special Jury Prize at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2021, when exhibiting at the French Pavilion. He also received the Hugo Boss Prize in 2002. His participation in major international exhibitions includes “dOCUMENTA 13” (Germany) in 2012, the 10th Gwangju Biennale (South Korea) in 2014, and the 5th Skulptur Projekte Münster (Germany). From 2013 to 2014, a retrospective exhibition of Huyghe’s work toured the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Museum Ludwig (Cologne), and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In 2015, he created a commissioned work for the Roof Garden of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York). He regularly holds solo exhibitions at major museums, such as Serpentine Gallery (London) in 2018, LUMA Arles (Arles) in 2021, and the Kistefos Museum (Kistefos, Norway) in 2022. Huyghe also held a major solo exhibition at the Pinault Collection at the Palazzo Grassi-Punta della Dogana (Venice) in 2024.
