MIDORI SATO
Born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan in 1984. In 2006, Sato studied at Ecole Nationale des Beaux-arts de Dijon as an exchange student while studying at Nagoya University of Arts. She graduated from the Oil Painting Course, at the School of Art of Nagoya University of Arts in 2008. Sato then completed a master’s in design education research at Tokyo Zokei University’s Graduate School in 2010. She continues to create works depicting still life such as flowers, shoes, jewels, and carpets, especially the closet's interior with clothes. Rather than simply depicting the subject with precision, her brushstrokes are intense, and the orderly vertical lines created by the hanging clothes seem even more abstract. Sato has held numerous solo gallery exhibitions in Japan and abroad. She also participated in “VOCA” (The Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo) in 2013, “Embracing for Painting” (Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo) in 2015, and “Aichi Triennale 2016” (venues in Nagoya and Okazaki City) in 2016. She stayed in France for the residence program organized by Cite Internationale des Arts Paris in 2011 and 2017, and as an overseas trainee of POLA Art Foundation in 2018 respectively. Apart from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Ohara Museum of Art (Okayama), her works are also under the collection of numerous corporate collections such as Montblanc Japan and RMK.
