"Continuum" is the most recent series in Nomata’s long career. This painting depicts a vast boat-like mechanism floating on water. A waterwheel is visible along its side, while an enormous circular structure rises above it. The work evokes an unknown mechanism that appears to channel the energy of the water below into the structure above. In this new series, Nomata no longer focuses on the isolated structures seen in his earlier works. Instead, he depicts structures that exist in accordance with functional and relational demands, connected to nature or to something beyond themselves.
