This monumental Jacquard tapestry is based on a painting of the same title, created in 2022 as part of Shaw’s "Space Between Dreams" series. Set in an imaginary winter palace, the scene depicts a lone figure burning art books while animals from cold climates gather nearby. Outside the window, polar bears crowd together on melting ice. A circular painting by the window depicts a landscape engulfed in roaring flames. In a hole in the floor near the fire, a small paradise still remains. Shaw has spoken of both a sense of helplessness and a sense of responsibility as an artist in a world where conflict and problems never cease.
