Tsugami is a landscape painter. However, it is difficult to find the actual landscape that she saw on the canvas which has lost the concreteness from the original sketches. In this work as well, if one were unaware that the three consecutive canvases represent some kind of scenery, it would appear to be nothing but an abstract painting. However, when one stands in front of the work again after learning the title and the concept behind it, it is reminiscent of the mountain ranges far away, the gentle ripples of a lake, the orange glow of the setting sun, and the harsh air in February evoked one after another. The process of recognizing Tsugami’s paintings as landscapes is formed by allowing the gush of imagination that occurs as Tsugami replaces the scenery with paint to flow backward in the viewer’s mind. They may not be strictly classified as abstract paintings since the artist describes them as landscapes, yet they can be said to be paintings that abstract the common concept of landscapes from the actual scenery.
