In many of Moritz’s works, deep blue and red are often seen with a vibrant light green at the center. These colors are painted on paper with slightly rough brushstrokes in an up-and-down direction. Moritz's works were often created as a series or a sequence of paintings, and the title of this work also indicates that it is one of several paintings depicting a similar theme. Although it is entitled “Lantern”, no related image of a lantern can be found in the artwork. Moritz is known as an artist who mainly paints about memory and imagined scenery, so perhaps she should have been looking for images that emerge from ambiguity, rather than seeking tangibleness such as form and materiality. It is worth gazing at the painting while pondering what emerges from the depths of the deep blue space of this work as if casting a glimmer of light on a moonless night.
