A dense forest and an interior overflowed with objects— the space is always filled with something in the world Hirako depicts. However, in this work, there is a large open space in the shade of a huge tree in the center. “He”, who always spends time surrounded by things, is sitting lonely, while the dry wood opposite to the trunk is depicted in contrast to “him”. The inside of the tree is filled with thick branches and leaves, resembling a starry night sky. On the other hand, the forest in the background is blazingly bright and shining in rainbow colors. It is said that Hirako’s works are an expansion of what is happening in the real society surrounding him. If that is the case, what does the intense opposition between light and dark in this work refer to in our society?
