Born in Kanazawa in 1927, Ohi Toyasai X was the eldest son of Ohi Chozaemon IX. He graduated from the crafts department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1949 and succeeded to the name Ohi Chozaemon X in 1987. Active in both tea ceramics and contemporary ceramic art, he was a member of the Japan Art Academy, a Person of Cultural Merit, and a recipient of the Order of Culture. He died in 2023.
