Born in Kyoto in 1912, Ogawa Choraku II was the eldest son of Ogawa Choraku I and succeeded to the name in 1939. He was designated a Preserver of Craft Techniques in 1943. After the war, he developed new expressions rooted in the Raku tradition, including white Raku and varieties of yakinuki and polychrome glazes. He died in 1991.
