Born in 1758, Ohi Doan IV was first named Kanbei and later succeeded as Ohi Chozaemon IV. He retired in 1824 and took the retired name Doan. As the fourth head of Ohi ware, he carried forward the family's techniques; from his generation onward, high-fired black Raku tea bowls were also produced in earnest. He died in 1839.
