KINETA KUNIMATSU

GLACIER MOUNTAIN
Kineta Kunimatsu was born in Hokkaido in 1977. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tama Art University in 2001, and in 2010 completed a master’s degree in Art Education at the Graduate School of Education of Hokkaido University of Education.
Since 2002, Kunimatsu has been based at the TOBIU Art Community in Hokkaido. In recent years, he has created sculptures, paintings, and installations centered on contours and boundaries found within landscapes such as horizons, shorelines, mountain ranges, and caves.
In 2025, a solo exhibition of his work was held at the Towada Art Center. He has participated since 2013 in the “* folding cosmos” project organized by Miwako Kurashima, and in 2025 his work was also exhibited at the The Noguchi Museum.
In addition to his individual practice, Kunimatsu conducts ongoing fieldwork centered on the region known as Ayoro as part of the collaborative unit Ayoro Laboratory, active since 2015. He is also a member of the artist collective THE SNOWFLAKES, formed within the TOBIU Art Community in 2020.
