KINETA KUNIMATSU
Kineta Kunimatsu was born in Hokkaido, Japan, in 1977. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Tama Art University’s Faculty of Art and Design in 2001 and completed the master’s course in Fine Arts Education at Hokkaido University of Education’s Graduate School of Education, Department of Subject Education. Kunimatsu has been based at the Tobiu Art Community (Shiraoi, Hokkaido) since 2002. In recent years, he has produced sculptures, paintings, and installations that address the contours (boundaries) of landscapes, including terrestrial and maritime horizons, mountain ranges, and caves. In 2025, he held a solo exhibition at the Towada Art Center. He has been participating in Miwako Kurashima’s “*folding cosmos” project since 2013, and his work was featured in an exhibition of this project at the Noguchi Museum (New York) in 2025. Kunimatsu continues to carry out fieldwork in the region known as Ayoro as part of the activities of the Ayoro Laboratory (2015–present) unit, and is also an active member of the artist collective THE SNOWFLAKES (2020–present), established within the Tobiu Art Community.
