KANAKO SASAKI
Born in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan in 1983. Sasaki graduated from the Industrial Design department of Tohoku Institute of Technology. She has been active in engaging commercial projects such as image advertising, fashion, product artworks…etc. At the same time, Sasaki participates in solo exhibitions at Roppongi Hills, A/D Gallery, sendai mediatheque (6F Gallery a), and presents her works to audiences at international fine art exhibitions such as the Art Fair Kiaf Seoul, Art Busan, Art Miami and so on. In recent years, a great number of the artist’s works have been painted in blue, a color associated with her own prenatal memories.

Year: 2022Blue seems to be associated with the birth of life for Sasaki. The artist has mentioned that her prenatal memory was blue. In this work, too, various shades of blue (ranging from green to grayish blue) are mixed together like marbling. For some reason, it gives the impression of a bird’s eye view, as if looking down to the sea from high above the sky. The bright white which acts as a strong highlight stands in sharp contrast to the dark ultramarine blue, creating a sense of depth to this work.
