ALEXIS ROCKMAN
Alexis Rockman was born in New York, USA, in 1962. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1982 to 1983 and received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1985. His style is influenced by 19th-century landscape paintings and science fiction films, and he has explored many themes, including genetic engineering and environmental issues. Among his diverse projects, many aim to raise awareness about how science and technology are harming nature and impacting the ecosystem, as well as about the flora and fauna that will continue to survive in a post-apocalyptic world after humans have ceased to exist. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and has since participated in many other solo and group exhibitions in major museums across the US. His works are included in the collections of the Guggenheim (NY), the Hammer Museum (LA), the Brooklyn Museum (NY), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art (NY), and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (Moscow).
