DEKIYAYOI
Yayoi Deki was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1977. She is known for her style of finger-stamping technique, using her fingertips to press paint directly onto the surface. Countless small arcs that form her ellipse-shaped fingertip marks unfold on the screen, with small faces or the like drawn into each one. They are the inhabitants of what the artist calls her fictional world, “Nanakamura.” The way in which the artist brings together small objects to form a larger picture evokes the chain of life, or the cellular tissue of the body.
Deki participated in “Ground Zero Japan” (1999) at Art Tower Mito and “Roppongi Crossing 2007” at Mori Art Museum. She also took part in the 7th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition (2000) and the 7th Lyon Biennale (2003). She has also collaborated with the fashion brand Loewe. Her works are held in the collections of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; Takamatsu Art Museum; and Mori Art Museum, etc.
