GERHARD RICHTER

Kanarische Landschaften I [Canary Landscapes I (Butin 39)]
Born in Dresden, Germany in 1932. Richter is considered one of the greatest contemporary painters. He has a wide diversity of expressions such as “Photo Painting”, “Abstract”, “Color Chart”, “Mirror”, “Grey Painting”, “Strips”, “Atlas”, and “Overpainted Photographs”, all have reached a high dimension. With respect, Richter’s works sometimes are referred as “styleless style”. From figurative images to abstract expressions, from chromatic to achromatic colors, he achieves the maximum variety of painting just by himself. Richter’s whole life is overarched by the enormous theme of what paintings can express. He is one of the most important contemporary artists, having held solo exhibitions at major museums including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate Modern in London, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
