ウォーホルやヴィッセルマンらと並ぶポップ・アートの巨匠として知られ、ソフト・スカルプチュアの先駆者として知られるオールデンバーグ。本作はその立体作品「Profiterole」(独：シュークリーム)を描いた絵画を版画化したものだ。ふんだんに挟み込まれたクリームとチョコレートをとろりと垂らしたボリューミーなシュークリームの様子を、どことなく可愛げのある筆致で質感たっぷりに描いている。左右にうっかり飛散してしまったような飛沫が、いかにもここでシュークリームを作ったような不思議な臨場感を加えている。石や金属など素材のせいか硬く重苦しさがあったそれまでの彫刻のあり方に対して、子どものような遊びごころを持ち込んで大いに批判した異端の彫刻家らしい柔らかな作品。
